This framework's goal is easier technical compliance and introduction to new functional processes for your organization, with little need for testing or end user training relative to past version upgrades. EHPs are not support packages. While support packages contain corrections and legal changes, SAP EHPs contain new functionality (i.e., user interface simplifications, functional
enhancements, enterprise services, etc) and are a delta shipment to SAP ERP 6.0.

Selective Installation

Each SAP enhancement package contains new versions of existing software components.

You only update software components, which are related to the functionality you want to use.

After installation:

No UI or process change until a Business Function is activated.

However, SAP EHPs require a defined ERP Support Package Stack as a pre-requisite.

Selective Activation

New functionality must be explicitly switched on to become active in the system.

If activated:

Changes are predictable, only well described changes in the activated areas.

Testing is simplified with templates, provided for every Business Function.

The sound effects of SAP GUI often drive people crazy and not everyone knows how to turn it off. So let me show you how.

To turn off SAP GUI sound effects:

Click on the "Customize Local Layout" button (usually the last one on the icon bar)

Select "Design Settings" from the dropdown menu.

Click "Off" for Sound. Click OK to save settings. And you're done!

Welcome to the groupbasis team blog. This is my first post. I will start blogging very soon! I'm still playing catch up after laboring to get my book, SAP Security Configuration and Deployment to the publisher in order to meet the deadline for release to the general public. Check it out on Amazon.com. Also, wanted you to know that my implementation of SAP BusinessObjects for the military has been going very well.

I hope everyone is enjoying this time of year!

Best regards,

Sometimes it's hard to figure out a reasonable list of tasks and their proper order when you're reading the SAP Installation guides. Here's a quick listing of what I do when I want to install an ABAP system.

I often struggled in my beginning days as an SAP Basis administrator to figure out two items-- one, what are the steps to complete an SAP installation, and two, when was I essentially done with the installation and could turn it over to the customer?

This question was difficult, because as you know, there are a couple of hundred pages in the installation guides. The layout of the guide is very--shall we say--confusing, and there are multiple possible starting points. So over time, I distilled the guide down to a simple list of tasks. By no means will it work for every environment, and you won't get away from reading the installation guide. I also occasionally update it.

However, here's the list. Suggestions for improvement are welcome!

HOW TO INSTALL SAP:

1.	Proper level of Java installation for Netweaver & SAPINST (Probably Java 1.4.2_13)
2.	Operating System Preparation (steps 3-5):
3.	Configure Swap (page file set to 3-4X RAM)
4.	File cache configured
5.	Install DVDs copied locally
6.	Download Kernel CD
7.	Download Kernel updates
8.	Adobe Reader installed (on Windows servers)
9.	SAPGUI installed (on Windows servers)
10.	SAPTRANSHOST configured (hostname)
11.	SAPInst preparation complete (test that java command line works)
12.	Oracle client install (or other DB as required)
13.	Oracle DB installation
14.	CI Install
15.	DB Load
16.	Kernel Update
17.	Change SQL Server Service (MSSQL) to run under domain account (this makes it possible to backup to network shares)
18.	License Install
19.	ABAP Load Generation (T-code SGEN)
20.	Initial Performance Tuning (I'll post some tips in a later blog)
21.	SICK check
22.	Create Operations Mode
23.	Assign time profile
24.	Assign default logon client
25.	Verify stop-and-start of SAP
26.	Change STZAC to proper timezone
27.	Create batch user
28.	Log on as batch user in client 000 and schedule standard jobs
29.	Log on in 000 as DDIC and run RDDIMPDP & RDDNEWPP
30.	Run in all latest support packages
31.	Re-run SGEN
32.	Copy client 000 to specified default client
33.	Set default client in RZ10
34.	Enter new system in SLD as necessary
35.	Add system into STMS
36.	Backup and recovery test

Create some users and turn it over to the team; you're done for now!
